About Us

Now in its 90th year in the broadcasting industry, the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group proudly serves Western Canada with a commitment to excellence in radio and television throughout the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta.

The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group

Our beginning goes back to the launch of one of Canada's first radio stations, CFXC AM in Vancouver BC. Although its formats and call letters changed a number of times over its history, the station known today as CKPK FM, 100.5 The PEAK continues to focus on bringing value and entertainment to its customers as we do through all of our radio and television stations. Jim Pattison Broadcast Group prides itself on our people who subscribe to our core belief that by "working together, we're stronger than ever"! Our 29 FM radio stations along with our three independent television stations are market leaders with a penchant to be the eyes and ears of each community we are proudly licensed to serve...from the major market of Vancouver to the smallest communities in Rocky Mountain House, AB or Parksville, BC.

With over 500 professional broadcasters, our Group's ongoing growth and success can be attributed to the dedication of our team members who come to work every day with the passion, enthusiasm, fervour and skillset to produce the very "best" in top quality "local" programming for each and every marketplace. Every member of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group has the opportunity through TTI... Total Team Involvement... to contribute his or her valued input into the daily operations of each station and to assist in continuing to grow a successful broadcasting company. The Canadian broadcasting industry continues to be exhilarating and, for our Group to remain on top, we strongly believe in giving our teams the tools of our trade, combined with the responsibility to strategize, create, implement and execute our Group's goals and values.

The Broadcast Group, with our head office in Kamloops, BC, has grown to become the sixth largest radio group in the country, as well as Canada's largest privately owned western-based radio and television company! We combine our six Guiding Principles: Trust, Integrity, Quality, Innovation, Commitment and Customer Service with a fun, challenging and opportunity-filled working environment. We empower our teams and stations to continuously strive for excellence in creating entertaining program line-ups along with news/information, community service and engaging promotions.

Community & Growth

Community is what we're all about in the Broadcast Group as we strive to ensure that we do what we can in each market in which we have a radio or television station to make every single community event a tremendous success, from beginning to end. In the past 12 months, our Group raised over $15.1 million for hundreds of very worthwhile charities and community endeavours including:

CJXX FM Grande Prairie – Coca Cola House of Hope, Q103.1 Kelowna – Shelter from the Storm, CHLB FM Lethbridge – Care from the Heart Radiothon, CHAT TV – Medicine Hat District Health Foundation Christmas Telethon, Spirit of the North Week on CKPG TV Prince George, Kamloops B100's Basics For Babies, Big 105/The Drive Red Deer Westerner Days, The Peak Vancouver – Bowl for Big Brothers, Island Radio Nanaimo – Cops for Cancer – Tour de Rock, Kiss FM Vernon – Our Kids have Talent, CHDR FM/CHBZ FM Cranbrook – East Kootenay Foundation Health Starlite Campaign to The Q Victoria's "Help Fill A Dream". All are very worthy causes we are proud and honoured to support.

The broadcasting industry continues to change and evolve, and our Group has certainly been at the forefront of ensuring we continue to be relevant in the 21st century in both radio and television. Our radio stations are market leaders in their designated music formats, which encompass Rock to Country, Adult Album Alternative (AAA) to Contemporary Hit Radio and Classic Hits to Adult Standards.

In television, our Group made a major commitment to the future with a substantial capital plan in recent months to convert our three TV stations to High Definition. This six-month project was all about our mantra of Total Team Involvement from our Engineering/IT team to production, programming, news, creative and promotion, working together to ensure a smooth transition. Our TV stations met our year end deadline to retire our outdated standard definition platform, and are now proudly broadcasting to our viewers and communities in HD! Combining our solid, award-winning "local" news and information programming, with the best of Canadian and international programming from Citytv in our new HD format, has our stations well-positioned in the 500+ channel universe.

Our Group is also attuned to the changing landscape of social media. Over the past few years, we have continued to embrace opportunities to grow our presence in the new consumer world of digital and social media. To connect with our listeners, viewers and community, every station has its own unique website. We also Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blog, Rate The Music and "stream" all of our radio stations online. In television, we also stream our evening newscasts on our stations' websites and offer video downloads of significant stories as they happen, so no matter where any of our viewers may be in the world, they can remain connected with their local community. Our websites generate about one million page views per month, and "online" streaming of our radio stations continues to grow exponentially generating over 10.7 million hours tuned annually. We are diligent and innovative in ensuring our online platform continues to reflect our stations and build a social network that is interactive and fun, stands out from our competitors and gives our customers reasons to continue coming back to our sites.

The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group is well- respected in Canada's broadcast industry, a position we don't take for granted. Every day we endeavour to uphold the values that define us and for which we stand, all the while executing our mission statement... "The spirit to win, the spirit to succeed, the spirit to grow, leads to success for a committed team". In 2012, our focus will be on growth for our Group, our people and our stations, as we continue to make sure that we constantly serve our listeners and viewers, fulfill our commitments to the communities about which we truly care and remain an integral part of each city's future.
