Guinness World Records

For nearly 60 years, Guinness World Records has established itself as the global symbol for integrity and accuracy in the recording of world-beating accomplishments. Its reach is now so universal that whenever someone endeavors to reach the absolute pinnacle, it is Guinness World Records that he or she will contact to verify and record the achievement.

Recognized worldwide as the only true arbiter of world records and superlative achievements, Guinness World Records sells 3.7 million copies of its world-famous records book in 26 languages across 100 countries every year.

The 2010 edition of the Guinness World Records book celebrates the outstanding accomplishments of the last decade, the first of the 21st century, while looking forward to the next. More dynamic in content and design than ever before, the 2010 book also features many links to exclusive interactive online resources that demonstrate our commitment to exploring new ways of delivering entertainment, excitement and, equally importantly, value to our readers.

Alongside our main book sits GWR Gamer’s Edition, which is now in its third edition. Respected by videogamers and industry professionals alike, Gamer’s Edition is rapidly becoming the gamer’s bible.

Of course, our books would be nothing without the records that go into them and, every year, GWR receives 35,000 record claims from more than 118 countries, from which 3,500 new records are generated.

GWR staff members personally attend more than 400 record-breaking events around the world annually through our custom-made adjudication service. In 2009, our most successful year yet for adjudications, the service generated a total media spend for our clients equivalent to $130 million.

Television and Licensing

Guinness World Records has always had a fine reputation on the small screen. This year, GWR has had original television productions in 10 territories, (China, France, Greece, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom) with several more lined up for next year. In addition to our large production slate, we have also seen Spanish language versions of our shows sold throughout Latin America, and a selection of our biggest and best programming go all over Asia. And it is now possible to catch up with Guinness World Records television online through our very own YouTube link: www.youtube.com/guinnessworldrecords.

At Guinness World Records, we are also pushing forward on many fronts in our licensing business. Current product licensing deals cover mobile phones, toys and games, stationery, paperback books and children’s magazines. In addition, major companies such as Panasonic and Mercedes Benz have used the GWR trademark in their global marketing campaigns.

So, although in these difficult times we take nothing for granted, at Guinness World Records we are confident that 2010 will be another outstanding year.
