Community Full Service Grocery Opens at SFU, Burnaby
Burnaby, British Columbia – Nesters Market will open its 10th location at UniverCity, the award winning sustainable community on Thursday, January 14th at noon.
The UniverCity store is 23,000 square feet of the best that Nesters Market has to offer including a full selection of groceries, meats and produce at very competitive prices. Also available are unique products and specialty services that make Nesters Markets so popular in the communities in which they live and operate, including organic and natural, imported and top-quality fresh foods; a full-service seafood counter; a deli-bistro featuring hand cut sandwiches, take-home lunches and dinners; and a bakery. Opening soon will be a full-service Pharmacy and Postal Office.
“Nesters Market is extremely proud to be opening in UniverCity and we look forward to being a part of the community’s exciting and bright future,” says Store Manager Eric Olsen. “We’ve worked hard to customize our offering to meet the needs of the 28,000 SFU students and the residents of the community.”
Aware that students value fast and convenient food that is both healthy and economical, the store will offer a much larger section of “grab and go” meals, as well as a wall of energy drinks and juices that are popular with younger shoppers. Equally important are the residents and families living in UniverCity, who will no longer have to drive or bus off the mountain to do their grocery shopping.
UniverCity is a complete, sustainable, residential community comprised of walkable neighbourhoods on approximately 160 acres of university land, adjacent to the SFU campus. It is home to 3,000 people, with more neighbourhoods planned to accommodate a thriving community of approximately 4,500 homes and 10,000 people. Homes range from smaller apartments suitable for singles to large condominiums for family living. The community includes a commercial town centre anchored by Nesters Market, parks, an extensive bicycle and pathway system, and an elementary school.
The Nesters Market geoexchange (geothermal) system provides cooling for the store and as a by-product will provide heating for the residential building. The waste heat will also heat the hot water for the building.
“We are very pleased to open a Nesters Market in a community with a concern for the environment said Dan Bregg, president of Buy-Low Foods. “Our store will be in a geo-thermal building in a sustainable community that will serve the entire UniverCity and university communities, and that is very exciting.”
Located at the corner of University High Street & Tower Road, Nesters Market is the 10th Nesters Market location in B.C. and Alberta and features a diverse selection of grocery products from all around the world, as well as many unique products made and packaged in B.C. Nesters Market prides itself on being a place where locals shop and meet and is excited to bring its winning formula of quality, value and neighbourly ideals to its newest location.
