Jim Pattison Broadcast Group stations and
employees recognized with awards
Kamloops, BC - June 2009
Leading broadcast industry organizations recently recognized Jim Pattison Broadcast Group stations in Alberta and British Columbia for their outstanding reporting, commercial production and community service.
Provincially, the Group received three BCAB (British Columbia Association of Broadcasters) Awards of Excellence and seven BCAB Awards of Merit. Longtime Kamloops News Director/Program Director Doug Collins was named the BCAB Broadcaster of the Year. The British Columbia Association of Broadcasters represents private television and radio broadcasters with the mandate to combine the resources and strength of our industry in three key areas: to promote and contribute to community enhancing programs throughout our province, to present a unified and credible voice in matters that affect our growing industry, and to provide members with information and inspiration through the annual BCAB Conference.
At the June 2009 Regional RTNDA (Radio and Television News Directors Association) conferences in Edmonton and Vancouver, Pattison Group stations were honored with two Bert Cannings awards for best newscast, five Dave Rogers awards for Radio and Television Features and the Byron MacGregor Award for Best Radio Newscast in a Medium Market. RTNDA Canada is the voice of electronic journalists and news managers in Canada. The members of RTNDA Canada recognize the responsibility of broadcast journalists to promote and to protect the freedom to report independently about matters of public interest and to present a wide range of expressions, opinions and ideas.
On a national level, CFJC-TV Kamloops was recognized with three RTNDA Awards. The Bert Cannings Award, Best Newscast for the “CFJC TV Evening News”. The Dave Rogers Award for the Short Feature “ALS”, which Documents the struggle of a former CFJC-TV employee fighting ALS. And the Dave Rogers Award for the Long Feature “Remembrance Day”, a story that dealt with the memories of Remembrance Day for not only the older soldiers in the World Wars, but the memories of a soldier who served in Afghanistan.
Creative teams across the group were also recognized for outstanding writing and production. CJXX Grande Prairie won Gold at the Radio Marketing Bureau Crystal awards for “Best Entry from a Market under 100,000”, while CHUB/CFDV Red Deer picked up the Honorable mention in the same category. At the Television Bureau Retail Commercial Awards, CFJC-TV Kamloops took home top honors in the Schools/Educational Facilities category and an honorable mention in the Entertainment/Sports category. The Television Bureau of Canada organizes the TVB Retail Commercial Awards each year to help advertisers evaluate retail commercial production. This competition is unique in that the commercials are judged by consumers rather than creative experts. CKKQ Victoria and CKLZ Kelowna were recognized among numerous International entries, winning two categories at the 19th annual Radio and Production Magazine awards. Among the Pattison Broadcast Group winners at the event was an unbelievable 8th award for Victoria production talent Ross McIntyre, who remains 2nd all time on the RAP Magazine winners list.
The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group currently owns and operates 29 radio stations and 3 television stations in British Columbia and Alberta with head office in Kamloops, BC and is a proud division of The Jim Pattison Group. Headquartered in Vancouver, The Jim Pattison Group is comprised of 431 locations worldwide focusing on the automotive, media, packaging, food sales and distribution, magazine distribution, entertainment, export and financial industries.
