CRTC Gives the Nod to Pattison Broadcast Group in Vancouver
(Vancouver, BC) – The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) have officially approved the application by The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group to convert its existing AM station (CKBD-AM) to FM.
The new station, to be known as 100.5, The PEAK will serve Vancouver and the Lower Mainland with an adult album alternative format playing core artists such as Jack Johnson, KT Tunstall, John Mayer, Arcade Fire, David Gray, and Feist.
Pattison Broadcast Group President, Rick Arnish, welcomed the announcement, “I am absolutely delighted with the CRTC’s decision to allow us to move to FM in Vancouver. The Peak will be unlike anything heard in Vancouver previously and we are anxious to get this new project underway.” Arnish also complimented the group that put the application together. “We talk a lot about total team involvement, and I couldn’t be more proud of the team members that were part of the process. They put their heart and souls into this project and deserve the win they received.”
The new station, most likely to be known as 100.5, The PEAK, will be focused on new and emerging artists in a Triple A format targeted at Adults 25-49 years of age. Gerry Siemens, VP/GM of The Pattison Broadcast Group’s Vancouver radio stations commented, “We are very excited about the new station. The Triple A format will allow us to represent a wider range of music than most formats, and much of it will be from local and regional artists that are currently receiving very little exposure in the Vancouver market.” Siemens added that the new station will be completely fresh, and one that both women and men will enjoy listening to.
The Pattison Broadcast Group is committed to $12 million in Canadian Content Development funding over the next 7 years including more than $5 million to the Peak Performance Project designed to promote local and regional recording artists.
Pattison Broadcast Group currently owns and operates 28 radio stations and 3 television stations in British Columbia and Alberta.
