Overwaitea Food Group Supports Child Health BC to Improve Health Care in BC Communities

In 2007, the Overwaitea Food Group (OFG) pledged $20 million to support Child Health BC, an initiative of BC Children’s Hospital that helps kids in BC get the care they need, closer to their homes. Since then, Child Health BC has been able to put this concept into action in a number of communities in all parts of the province. Two of the most recent projects were the Telehealth services facility, which opened at the North Okanagan Neurological Association’s (NONA) Child Health Centre in November and the new Audiology Clinic at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital which opened in January.

Director of Child Health BC, Dr. Robert Peterson and patient Kira Alder unveil new Telehealth technology at Vernon’s Child Health Centre.

The new Telehealth videoconferencing technology at the NONA Child Health Centre is aimed at improving the quality of health care in the area by saving kids and their families days of travel and related expenses. And, with the opening of a new Audiology Clinic, families of children living with hearing loss in Prince Rupert, the coastal communities and Haida Gwaii will have better access to community and hospital based services. The opening of this facility means that families will no longer have to travel as far for diagnostic screening, assessment and treatment.
