Greenest Save-On-Foods Ever Opens in Edmonton's Magrath Neighbourhood
On August 11th, the fourteenth Save-On-Foods store in Edmonton opened its doors to serve the community of Magrath. In addition to providing a full complement of quality products and exceptional customer service, there are conveniences like Rapid Chef meals-to-go, health and nutrition information, a drive-thru pharmacy and an extensive offering of organic and natural foods.
This new 45,000 square foot store incorporates many energy-efficient features, making it the most energy efficient grocery store in the Save-On-Foods fleet. A reclaim heat system takes heat created through the refrigeration system and distributes it throughout the store. The store’s exterior frame includes insulated panels with customized exterior finishing. Other features include timed bakery ovens that only pre-heat and operate when needed, high output lighting, energy efficient heaters on glass-door freezers and a building automation system that automatically adjusts operating systems like lighting, heating and air-conditioning based on occupancy.
Save-On-Foods has a long tradition of supporting local growers, producers and suppliers, including Western Family Canadian Beef supplied by BC and AB ranchers and locally sourced vegetables from many Edmonton-based producers. Since entering Edmonton over 15 years ago, Save-On-Foods has been committed to local causes and charities which continued during the grand opening festivities with a barbecue in support of Stollery Children’s Hospital.
