Overwaitea Food Group receives BC Hydro Power Smart Excellence Award
BC Hydro has honoured, for the second time, the Overwaitea Food Group (OFG) for its outstanding achievements in energy efficiency and innovation at the 15th Annual Power Smart Excellence Awards held May 9 at the Fairmont Waterfront in Vancouver. OFG first won this prestigious award in 2005.
Awarded for Outstanding Energy Efficiency Project, the Overwaitea Food Group earned the honour by focusing on conservation. Since 2004, the company has completed or is implementing energy efficiency upgrades at one-third of its 90 stores in BC, with more to come. So far, the energy efficiencies incorporated into these projects equals the amount of electricity needed to light over 6,175 homes every year.
OFG has also developed a sustainable building design for new stores and constructed six BC locations based on the model. The company’s senior leaders have embraced the importance of energy efficiency and participated in BC Hydro’s Energy Management Assessment, helping OFG to become BC’s energy efficiency leader in the grocery industry.
The 2007 Power Smart Excellent Awards recognize customers and partners who are leading the way in implementing Power Smart solutions in the design, construction and renovation of buildings; applying innovative energy-efficient process improvements; or providing leadership in environmentally responsible practices and community involvement.
