With sales of over $7.1 Billion in 2009 and more than 33,000 employees, the Jim Pattison Group is the third largest private company in Canada.

The mandate of the Jim Pattison Group is total customer satisfaction and that goal continues to enable the individual divisions of the Jim Pattison Group to become leaders in their markets.

1961

  • Jim Pattison acquired a Pontiac Buick dealership in Vancouver. Started Jim Pattison Lease.

1965

  • Awarded license to operate Vancouver AM radio station CJOR.

1967

  • Acquired Neon Products and Seaboard Outdoor Advertising.

1968

  • Acquired Overwaitea Foods.

1969

  • Acquired Provincial News.

1972

  • Acquired Mountain City News.

1978

  • Started Group Opportunities (GO) Program.

1979

  • Acquired Claude Neon.

1980

  • Started Jim Pattison Real Estate Group; Opened Jim Pattison Toyota dealerships in BC’s Lower Mainland.

1981

  • Acquired Hook Outdoor Advertising.

1982

  • Acquired Gould Outdoor Advertising; Launched Save-On-Foods.

1984

  • Acquired Canadian Fishing Company.

1985

  • Acquired Ripley International Limited.

1986

  • Awarded license to operate Vancouver FM radio station CJJR; Acquired radio and TV stations in Kamloops, BC.

1987

  • Acquired Metro Toyota dealerships in Victoria and Duncan, BC.

1989

  • Acquired periodical distribution companies in Anchorage, AK and
    Atlanta, GA.

1990

  • Acquired packaging companies, including Genpak, Coroplast and Montebello; Awarded Lexus franchise in Victoria, BC.

1991

  • Started Financial Services division – Great Pacific Capital Corp.

1993

  • Assumed management control over Westar Group Ltd., including Westshore Terminals’ bulk loading facility, Roberts Bank, BC.

1994

  • Acquired periodical distribution business in Charlotte, NC.

1995

  • Acquired Buy-Low Foods and periodical distribution business in Jacksonville, FL.

1996

  • Acquired various periodical distribution companies in the US and Canada, rebranded as The News Group.

1997

  • Started Select Media Services; Opened Ripley’s Aquarium, Myrtle Beach, SC.

1998

  • Acquired Enseignes Imperial Signs, Edmundston, NB; Formed The News Group, L.P.

1999

  • Acquired Cooper’s Foods; and assets of B.C. Packers Ltd. in BC and Alaska.

2000

  • Opened Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, Gatlinburg, TN; Formed mag-azine Information network (MagNet).

2001

  • Acquired Monarch Broadcasting, Bulkley Valley Wholesale and Van-Whole Produce; Launched PriceSmart Foods.

2002

  • Started ProLogix Distribution Services in Toronto, ON and AccuLogix Distribution Services in Calgary, Alberta; Acquired Ever Corp’s aluminum tube business, St. Louis, MO.

2003

  • Acquired Nesters Market, Keller Foods and US Foam Packaging Business of Lin Pac, Inc.

2004

  • Acquired Classic Attractions in Texas, St. Augustine Sightseeing Trains in Florida; Maltese Signs, Norcross, GA; auto lease business of Cross-Canada Car Leasing Limited, Toronto, ON; and periodical distribution companies in California.

2005

  • Acquired Icicle Seafoods (B.C.) Inc.; Acquired Freeway Dodge Chrysler and Spartech Corporation’s corrugated plastic sheet business; Formed ProLogix Distribution Services and News Group Distribution Services in the US.

2006

  • Acquired Carthage Cup, Carthage, TX; Creative Outdoor Ads, Halifax, NS; Island Radio Ltd.’s six FM stations on Vancouver Island, BC; OK Radio Group Ltd.’s two FM stations in Victoria, BC; and A & W Fixtures, Cocoa, FL; Started Great Pacific Bank Limited, Warrens, Barbados.

2007

  • Formed a strategic alliance between Canadian Fishing Company and Ocean Fisheries Ltd., Vancouver, BC; Acquired Downtown Toyota, West Lease, and Hino Trucks Vancouver BC; Acquired outdoor advertising companies in Alberta and BC.

2008

  • Acquired Guinness World Records, London, England; Out-of-home advertising companies in Barrie, North Bay and Thunder Bay, ON and Penticton, BC; the collapsible aluminum tube business of IntraPac Inc., Harrisonburg, VA; radio station CKIZ-FM in Vernon, BC, and the specialty periodical distribution business of Time Media Direct Inc., New York, NY.

2009

  • Acquired logistics and distribution assets of Anderson Services and customer records of Anderson News in both existing markets served by The News Group and new markets, including WV, AL, KY, Nebraska, CO and AZ; Formed a new periodical distribution joint venture in Hawaii named Islander News Group.

2010

  • (to date) – Acquired a Guinness World Records museum, The Mystic Exporatorium (science museum), Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum and Hans Christian Anderson museum from a franchisee in Copenhagen, Denmark; and two Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museums from a franchisee in Orlando, FL and Branson, MO; Acquired remaining 60% of Media Logix, a Canadian specialty periodical distributor.
